Once you have your cheek swab kit, follow the instructional steps in the kit then return your sample in the postage paid envelope.

Swab A, B, C & D | DonorDrive4Dorothy, Stem Cell Donation

Remove Swab A from it's package. Do not allow the swab to touch any surfaces prior to collection.

We recommend that you do not eat for at least 30 minutes before swabbing.

Open your mouth and brush the swab as shown in the buccal collection procedure pamphlet

Swallow before using each swab.

Brush the cotton surface for 20-30 seconds against the inner surface of your cheek.

Use the same force as when you are brushing your teeth.

Repeat the steps for Swabs B, C, D. Close the cardboard holder to cover all 4 collected swab samples and insert them into the addressed prepaid postage envelope.

FAQ

Stem cells are immature cells that have the ability to develop into many different types of cells in the body. They can be found in bone marrow and blood.

Stem cell donation is the process of giving stem cells from the bloodstream or bone marrow to a person in need of a transplant.

Most healthy adults between the ages of 17 and 35 can donate stem cells. However, certain medical conditions and medications can disqualify someone from being a donor.

The stem cell donation process is not painful.

DonorDrive4Dorothy is the first Black-led Canadian charity that addresses the under-representation of Black stem cell donors in Canada. Our mission is to support, care for and help save the lives of Black patients with leukemia and other blood disorders by increasing the Black donor pool in The Canada Blood Services Stem Cell Registry.
